Work and my struggle to adjust to the new working hours……

I am still struggling with sleep and work after a month of not working nights, it has not helped that for the last two and a half weeks I have had to work the late shift so I don’t get home until a quarter to one in the morning and that is my usual work time so I don’t feel tire and most nights I don’t get to sleep until about 6 in the morning and a few hours later its up and off to work….One day last week I didn’t get to sleep until ten and was up again at eleven…nightmare….But after next week I am back to my regular new shift of 6.30 until 3.30/4.00 which I am looking forward to that…..

There are some things happening at work that I can’t mention in this blog without getting into serious trouble so I wont….But I am enjoying the new hours the work has changed and there are frustrations that are taking time to get used to…Like other people in the office and the noise it a pain and I do find this a struggle….Also I have found that there are a couple of witches in the office too and I wasn’t expecting that….Cackling in the afternoon is not pleasant on the ears….

I am slowly adjusting to working with other people, but I do struggle with talking to people when I am working as I have not done this for years…. The other problem I was not expecting to have is the number of times I have to stop in the middle of something to talk to someone about work related issues…..Don’t get me wrong I am enjoying it and I am learning so much at the moment which is good and for the future I see this getting better and hopefully it won’t be long before I get a crack at doing some projects for the new system and that is what I am really looking forward too….

I now work with a boss that I like and that is a first I can tell you, I actually get on with the guy and like him….(think he is the same) He has noticed that I have a talent and us using my knowledge of the business and is always picking my brains, I did not expect this at the start but I do enjoy it and feel touched that he seeks my advice…..

So one month down and I am adjusting to the different work all be it slowly but the best bit I am loosing loads of weigh which is an added bonus that has thrilled me…I eat far less and I now believe I used to eat on nights for the sake of it…..

Looking forward to the future and now my plans for overseas see further away than then did a couple of months away but they are only postponed and will happen one day and then the blogs will be interesting….I promise….

Thank you for reading…….

Football or Rugby

The idea of this blog is to try and explain who I switched from football to rugby and the benefits to me of the change….When I was at school probably early senior or late junior when the boys where choosing the team to support….I already had an interest in rugby but in those days it was not a professional sport and was not that widely followed and it was unheard of for a school boy to support a team or so I believed…. Back to the football in the end I decided there was no chance of getting to see a top club as my Dad had died a year or so earlier so I opted for the local side who were Reading. I didn’t really understand what I was doing and came in for a  lot of stick for picking Reading apart from the milkman who delivered to the school and on more than one occasion bailed me out of a sticky situation. As I got older I started to go and watch Reading and entered into the spirit of things and started to enjoy the game. Then I guess about the age of 21/22 I completely lost the plot and failed to understand what I was doing and I gave it up and he ended my football following….This was the start of the era when football had its troubles on and off the Terrance and I don’t think this helped me either…

Probably a good 10 years later when rugby was still an amateur sport I sat down on Saturday afternoon when I was feeling very down and at a very low point in my life. I turned on the television to watch Rugby League and that was it I was hooked and by the time of the final hooter I was feeling a lot better and had enjoyed the game…Only two weeks to wait for the next game on the television and that was it I was hooked and for the rest of the season I did not miss a game and was hooked on Rugby League….Next step was to choose a team to follow and decided on Castleford and I still follow them to this day..(picked on the base that I love the gold and black colours on the shirts – thats a good enough reason isn’t it) To this day I am still a league fan and then as union became a professional sport I started to follow this as well especially after League switched to a summer sport….and I could enjoy the best of both worlds……I had always been an England fan and since I can remember I had watch England in the five nations as it was then.

But the time came just before my eldest was born to go and watch a rugby match as see what it was like in the flesh so to speak and I opted to watch the Bedford Blues as this was close to where I was living at the time….One game and I was hooked and that was it Saturday afternoons were spent watching rugby in the flesh….Then when my eldest was born I stopped going as I wanted to spend the time with her. I introduced her to rugby at an early age she was born in 1994 and by 1995 she was happily cuddling me watching the world cup in South Africa and that was it so  I like to think she was hooked but to be honest it was the 2003 world cup that caught her imagination and we sat together on the sofa and loved the final especially that kick and the lads lifting the trophy….Then in 2007 she didn’t miss a game she knew all the players and the positions and loved it, tears after England lost and a request to go and see a top club game…So I offered to take her to Bedford Blues or Northampton Saints as this was the big club close to where we lived but she opted to go and watch the Blues and that was it by half time she was hooked and checking the program and before I  knew it we were due back there in two week time for our next game…. We have never looked back and she is a Blues fan to the core and loves the game having only missed a few games since….

The reason for writing this blog was to discuss the finer points of rugby and the points that make this game a better game than football. Rugby is a rough game but the discipline is far better than that of football…The players call the ref Sir and do as he asks and you never see a rugby player chase the referee across the pitch when they are not happy about the decision. Also there is the 10 metre rule if you argue the punishment is moved 10 metres against you. I just wish football would introduce this rule as I feel the game would benefit from this. I do not like the football mentality of chasing the ref when you do not agree…. But for my daughter rugby has helped it lots of ways….she would never do PE at school as would always ask Dad can i have a note please i cant do PE today but now try and stop her….She plays rugby and she now plays for Bedford Blues under 18 ladies team and is thrilled as she gets coached by some of the first team players……

The only part of rugby that worries me is money, Football has been spoilt by money to the extent where most clubs are on the brink of going out of business and owe so much money…what other business in the world can you lose a fortune and the bank gives you more money without asking a question or a plan for repaying….In the Guinness Premiership only Northampton Saints made a profit last season and that was for £ 20,000 I believe and a team as strong and good at Leicester Tigers who have gates of over 22,000 lost £ 820,000 last season… There is a salary cap in rugby and I would like to see that stay as I would hate for a rugby club to end up in the same position as a top football team….Also I feel there is no need to expand the premiership by more than one of two clubs but I would halt relegation and promotion from the Championship. Starting this season I would not relegate Worcester but I would promote Bristol and Exeter Chiefs as I feel both these teams are strong enough to stand their own in the premiership….(i know there would be an odd number but this would not be a problem)…Then that would be it but I would have  rule whereby if a team was too weak in the premiership they could be relegated and if a team in years to come became too strong in the championship and had the finances to survive I would promote them…This will be for the good or rugby I feel and I would also introduce a limit on the number of foreign plays in a side so to promote how grown talent as believe me there is a lot out there…..The championship is a good league but the idea to make it a professional league last year has not worked you only have to look at Coventry and Birmingham Bees both teams ran out of money this season along with London Welsh but they have fared better…..Leave the league as a semi professional like it used to be when it was known as national league division one….Please dobs at the top don’t kick a team when they run out by deducting 15 points help them out when they need it most…..One good sign  I believe is the new national league division one has improved a great deal this season as the two clubs relegated by the championship have slipped with though and will be in national division two next season….l

The General Election Part Two……

                                               The General Election…….

As I am sat here writing I am also watching out of the corner of my eye the new prime minister making his speech…..I got me wondering what could have happened…If Labour had done a deal with the Lib/Dems then they would also need the help of the Welsh Nationalists and the Scottish Nationalists I was left wondering what could have happened. Now when the dreaded cuts came about that we all know have to happen what really would have happened…..

Gordon Brown or whoever was in charge of the government would have been stuck…I can just see it now the Welsh and Scottish MP’s saying no cuts for us otherwise all bets are off and its General Election time. So all the  cuts that would have gone through would  have affected England only and the English Schools ,Hospitals, Fire Service, Police Force as we are not represented in the new Parliament. Who would have stood our ground and protected out services…Well I will tell you know one would and we would have taken the brunt of the cuts while Scotland and Wales would be much better off.

So maybe we should be relieved that this election has lead to a Tory Lib/Dem Parliament and we can now let out a sigh of relief and wait and see what the coming months bring….I would like to think that Vince Cable is the new chancellor and I feel this is far more important that Nick Clegg being Deputy Prime Minister….

I still don’t understand why there was all the hype about the PR at the start of the talks…this was never on the cards as it’s not that important…Our debt  is far more important and as soon as we get the spending under control the better its needs to be sorted quick….The debt is rising by half a billion pounds a day and that’s not good….We need a plan to get this paid off so that we can move forward and then when that is on the road to recovery please by all means you can discuss the PR and voting system but please let’s get this debt sorted and this great country of ours back on the straight and narrow….

Now David Cameron I will leave it with you and I hope you have the sense to get this mess sorted and appoint Vince Cables as chancellor, the only man in authority who saw the banking crisis coming…Maybe I should say wanted to admit that the crisis was coming as I am sure RBS and the others knew something was happening, because I sure did….Hence I closed my account and moved my money from RBS days before the wheels  fell off…

I still feel this was the election to lose as the decisions are going to be tough and when the next election comes along guessing about a year or two then it will be all change again and the next winner will get longer as hopefully things will have improved a little bit…

If you’re interested my Politics are left and of a socialist nature but I don’t feel I can be represented by Labour as they have a spend spend and never pay back attitude…So where do I go and who do I vote for.  Well one of my twitter friends suggested a site to me and I tried on the day of the election and i came out as a Green supporter….I was shocked but then maybe that’s the way i am going….I want to spend but i need to have a way to cover the spending with the borrowing and if that cant be done i don’t believe in the spending…I don’t believe is spending a fortune on people who will never work and have no intention of working but I do believe in supporting people who are in difficult times and need help to get through a difficult patch….

My Birthday…My Body Clock

Well where to start….today is my birthday and I am (well I am not going to tell you that as i am way to old now not sure I can count that high and I defo cant subtract the year from the year of my birth anymore) I am working today and I offered to do a double shift as a colleague has a daughter who was 4 today….I couldn’t see a problem as I would not get to see my daughters so i had nothing planned for today…

Then last evening my eldest called me to say that she wanted to come round after school to see me and brink me a birthday cake so that we could share…Now as I had offered to do the double shift i had to tell her I would not be there today….She was upset but not too much but this has left me feeling terrible, it was such a nice thought on her behalf and it would have made the day so special… But i have had to decline and as I write this I feel the tears welling behind my eyes….It would have been so nice to have spent a few hours with her on my birthday especially as it’s a school night and i only get to see her some weekends…

So what happens next time its my birthday….probably the same thing as i am too soft to say no to anyone, so when asked to do a double shift again I will do it…I will feel shattered the next day and i will miss out on time with my daughter…..Will I ever learn and will I ever toughen up…I very much doubt it….

The other thing at work is i am still struggling with the change…For 13 years i worked nights for 5 nights a week and was very happy doing the work and getting paid. Then there was a change and i was offered the redundancy or a job on days….The company wanted me to take the days option and I felt I didn’t want the R word just yet as my age wasn’t right so i opted to days…

Last Tuesday i started on Days and what a shock this was to the system, I survived the first week i start at 6.30 and finish at 3.30 so am home nice and early….The hours are shorter than nights but on Wednesday I was so tired I was falling asleep at my desk by 8 in the morning and was home in bed by 7.30 on Wednesday evening and felt so much better on Thursday…Even last night i had problems sleeping so only managed a couple of hours and today’s double means only a few hours sleep tonight…Fingers crossed this does not last too long as it’s now half eleven and i could quiet happily have a kip…

Rugby at Welford Road

Yesterday Rugbymadd and i went to Welford Road to watch Leicester Tigers vs Saracens….The weather was more like November than May with the floodlights on well before half time….We braved the rain and stood around for a couple of hours so that we would have a good view.
Rugbymadd was looking forward to seeing Mauritz Botha play, a second row player for the Saracens who played for the Blues last season. We were surronded on the terrrace by a what we took to be a regular group of Ladies who spent the afternoon stuffing their faces with cakes sausage roll etc and i must say Ladies you most certainly managed to put a fair amount of food away. During the game Rugbymadd and i were chatting about Leicester and decided that there were not the team there were this time last season. Just chatting about players and the players we would have picked….Meanwhile Saracens played a blinder and deserved to win the game, their defence was fantastic…. On leaving the terrance rugbymadd informed me that the ladies next to us all second half had made remarks about her calling her a silly cow etc…Now ladies rugbymad is only 15 but watches about 50 games a season at all levels from international to local and she does know what she is talking about and is entitled to an opinion about the game…No harm was intended by her coments they were just what she felt and you should have been big enough to chalange her there and then rather then moan behind her back….
Rugbymadd was not bothered by this but next time ladies talk to her….you might be suprised at her knowledge…….

Oh another Sunday over and still no decission what what future lies ahead for this country of hours….Meeting to decide on whether its custard creams or rich tea but the important things like who will be PM are forgotten about…Meanwhile the debt of this country of ours goes up by 0.5 billion pounds a day…If this debt is not sorted we will be stuffed…The credit rating will be down graded and the markets will devalue sterling and we will end up in a much worse state than Greece so please act now…PR can be sorted at a later date but the debt cannot wait.
